Dragons and princesses! A look at Chinese New Year in Bangkok

Bangkok

February 10, 2013 marked the Chinese Lunar New Year, ushering in the Year of the Snake. We were in Bangkok at the time, using it as a hub between Laos and Cambodia, and decided to head down to Chinatown for the festivities. It was an awesome sight, and although we missed the dragon dancing, we ate really well and had a great time. Here are some of our pictures from the celebration.

Aren’t we good-looking?

This seafood restaurant has a long-time rivalry with the seafood restaurant across the street.  The only difference we could see was one restaurant’s staff wore green shirts and the other wore red. Sort of like Pat’s vs. Geno’s — those rival Philly Cheesesteak places.

Blocking off the road for what we thought might be a parade, but it turned out to be the Princess of Thailand’s arrival to Chinatown

Our one, and likely only, brush with royalty.  The Princess and her minions arrived in these drab trolleys.  Where’s her horse and carriage?  Or, better yet, an elephant?  What’s more, the Princess wore a T-shirt! A T-shirt!

Last, but far from least, we had some of the best food of the entire trip in Chinatown. Check out Jordan waxing poetic about his oyster omelette here.
